This report is an update to members on the wage negotiations between Engineering Iron and Steel Association of Zimbabwe (EISAZ) and National Engineering Workers Union (NEWU) for the period 2017/18. Members will recall that our last wage agreement was reached on 30th August 2016 and expired on 28th February 2017. Therefore the new agreement to be signed during this round of negotiations will replace the old one.
The negotiations commenced on 28th February 2017 at National Employment Council (NEC). The consultative process is still ongoing, parties have been instructed by NEC to present position papers of their constituencies. As you are aware EISAZ is divided into two regions namely, Western and Eastern Council for administrative purposes. The two Regional groupings held meetings on 7 and 11 April 2017 to build up a positions paper, which is work in progress as the secretariat is gathering all information related to the performance of the sector.
EISAZ is now at the critical stage of the negotiations as we move towards the end of April 2017. We therefore encourage members to attend the next two regional meetings to discuss the way forward to solicit for the mandates.
