NEC for the Engineering Iron and Steel Industry in Zimbabwe’s Collective Bargaining Agreement SI 134/2017 was successfully registered by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. In the circumstances, a new CBA incorporating the amendments i.e. SI 107/2022 was gazetted last week and shall operate from the first day of the month following its registration until further notice. Iron and Steel Industry’s Strategy Development

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in collaboration with EISAZ and other key stakeholders, is actively working on a comprehensive strategy to revive the engineering iron and steel sector. To achieve this, a thorough evaluation of the sector is currently underway. This evaluation encompasses a macro-economic environment analysis, an examination of end markets and trade, a diagnostic study of the value chain, an assessment of human capital, technical capacity, and technology, as well as a financial and economic evaluation. We would like to inform you that the National Employment Council for the Engineering, Iron and Steel industry is currently collecting data as part of the evaluation phase for the sector strategy development. Your cooperation in providing the necessary information would be greatly appreciated. For more details, please refer to the attached roadmap for the revival of the sector.
